Best for: anyone asking whether Google Veo is free and which Google page to trust.
Free access: Google's Flow credits page lists 50 Flow credits a day "with or without a subscription"; its Get started page says a Google AI plan is required. The two disagree (credits page, Get started page, checked 2026-10-27). The Gemini API has no free tier for video.
Our testing status: 3 Higgsfield runs refused, no clip. Veo 3.1 Fast (twice) and Veo 3.1 Lite (once) returned status nsfw on a start frame that Seedance 2.0 and Hailuo 2.3 accepted. Net cost: 0 credits. We have not tested Veo on any Google route.

Is Google Veo 3 free? Every access path (checked 2026-10-27)
Not clearly, and Google rarely uses that name now. Its pages, checked 2026-10-27, name Veo 3.1 for video in Flow and Gemini Omni in the Gemini app. Plain “Veo 3” appears only for photo-to-video in Google Photos, US only. For Flow, the credits page says “with or without a subscription, you receive 50 Google Flow credits per day” (Google Flow Help). The Get started page says you must be “subscribed to Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, or Google AI Ultra” (Get started with Google Flow). We cannot reconcile the two, so we report both.
- Flow, no subscription: 50 credits a day, per the credits page. At peak hours, roughly 2 PM to 5 PM UTC, non-subscribers may be unable to generate video. Flow’s country list includes the United States (Where you can use Google Flow, checked 2026-10-27).
- Flow through Workspace: qualifying Workspace business and education plans get Flow “at no extra charge” with 50 daily credits, per the Get started page.
The Gemini app, Gemini API and Google Photos rows are in the table below.
Our Higgsfield route is not free either: its pricing page marks Veo 3.1 “Not included” on the Free and Starter plans (checked 2026-10-20; see Higgsfield’s Free plan). Paying makes sense if you need Veo 3.1 Quality (100 credits, more than a day’s 50). A Google AI plan is also the one route every Google page agrees on.
Veo in Gemini vs Flow vs AI Studio vs Vids
The veo-access table, status as of 2026-10-27, built from Google’s own pages. “Not verified” means the page does not say it or we could not read it.
Route | What Google's page says | Veo named? | Our status |
|---|---|---|---|
Google Flow | 50 daily credits "with or without a subscription"; Get started page requires a plan. Lists Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast, Quality | Yes, Veo 3.1 | Not tested |
Gemini app | Video by Gemini Omni; personal accounts need a Google AI plan (limits table: no checkmark without one) | No, Omni | Not tested |
Gemini API / AI Studio | Veo 3.1 Preview "shut down on October 22, 2026"; points to Omni Flash (paid only) or "GA models" on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform | Only as shut down | Enterprise platform not checked |
Google Vids | Clips "with Gemini Omni"; Vids is "available to try at no cost", more usage on paid plans | No, Omni | Free clips not verified |
Google Photos | "Veo 3 photo-to-video generations": more on Pro, highest on Ultra, US only (plans page) | Yes, Veo 3 | Free access not verified |
Google AI plans | Video in Gemini and Flow, model "Omni Flash"; prices and trial length not in the page text | Veo 3.1 footnote: 140+ countries | Prices not verified |
Of the consumer routes, only Flow lets you pick a Veo 3.1 model by name. Flow’s models page says “All users can access Gemini Omni models” (models page, checked 2026-10-27); it says nothing similar about Veo 3.1.
OpenAI closed the Sora web and app on 2026-04-26 (help.openai.com, checked 2026-10-21); OpenAI’s Sora shutdown has the details.
What 50 daily Flow credits cover
Google’s pages leave one point open: whether a non-subscriber can use Veo 3.1 at all. Flow’s credits table (checked 2026-10-27) prices Veo 3.1 Lite at 10 credits and Fast at 20 per generation for “non-Ultra subscribers”. Quality (100) and Gemini Omni Flash 720p, 4 s (7) are priced for “all users”. If the non-Ultra prices applied to non-subscribers, 50 credits would cover 5 Lite or 2 Fast generations: our arithmetic, not verified. Quality exceeds one day’s 50, and unused daily credits do not roll over. One Flow request can produce 2 videos, each charged.
Is there a Veo 3 free trial?
Not verified as of 2026-10-27. Google’s AI plans FAQ says “when you start a trial or are subscribed to a Google AI plan” you can generate AI videos in Flow and the Gemini app. It gives no trial length, eligibility or price (plans page, checked 2026-10-27).
In our Google US snapshot for “veo 3 free” (2026-10-21), a Medium post at position 5 names a 30-day Google AI Pro trial through Google One. A Reddit thread at position 13 names a 30-day “Gemini Pro trial”. Both are third-party posts of unknown date; Google’s page does not repeat the number.
How much is Veo 3?
Google prints no Veo dollar price on the pages we read on 2026-10-27; Flow charges credits (above). The Gemini API pricing page has no Veo row, and the API’s Veo 3.1 Preview models shut down on 2026-10-22 (video docs). The suggested replacement, Gemini Omni Flash, costs $17.50 per 1M video output tokens. Google puts that at about $0.10 per second of 720p video (5,792 tokens/s; our check: 5,792 x 17.50 / 1,000,000 = $0.101). Google AI plan prices: not verified, because the plans page fills them in by script.
Higgsfield’s get_cost quotes, 2026-10-27, basic tier:
Model | 4 s | 6 s | 8 s | 4 s on Plus (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Veo 3.1 Fast | 16 credits | 24 | 32 | about $0.63 |
Veo 3.1 (quality) | 40 | 60 | 80 | about $1.57 |
Veo 3.1 Lite (audio off) | 6 | 9 | 12 | about $0.24 |
Lite is the cheapest Veo row on Higgsfield: 6 credits for 4 s, against 16 for Fast. Dollars use Plus at $47 a month for 1,200 credits, annual billing, excluding taxes (Higgsfield pricing, checked 2026-10-20). The Fast (16) and quality (40) quotes match that page. It also listed Veo 3 Fast at about 22 credits per 8 s and Veo 3 at about 58. The 2026-10-27 MCP catalog has no plain Veo 3; we record both and have not reconciled them. Plan costs: Higgsfield credit prices.
Veo on Higgsfield: our 4-second run
Veo 3.1 refused our start frame three times out of three on 2026-10-27, so this section has no clip. One frame and one prompt went to Veo 3.1 Fast, then an identical retry, then Veo 3.1 Lite. Each job ended with status nsfw and no error text. Higgsfield refunded the credits each time: net cost 0.
The input was a full-body still of our fictional, AI-generated test character, a fully clothed adult on a plain beige backdrop. The prompt asked for a smile, two relaxed steps toward the camera, a small wave and a curl tucked behind the ear, with a static camera. Seedance 2.0 and Hailuo 2.3 accepted this frame and prompt on Higgsfield; see our Seedance 2.0 clip.
Run | Model | Settings | Charged | Result | Net |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
H10-1 | Veo 3.1 Fast | 4 s, 9:16, audio off | 16 | nsfw after about 22 s, +16 refund | 0 |
H10-2 | Veo 3.1 Fast | identical retry | 16 | nsfw after about 1.5 min, +16 refund | 0 |
H10-3 | Veo 3.1 Lite | 4 s, 9:16, audio off | 6 | nsfw after about 1.5 min, +6 refund | 0 |
The third run changed only the model, to Veo 3.1 Lite. We did not reword the prompt or swap the image, and stopped after three tries: our content policy is to report a refusal, not work around it.

AI-generated start frame of our fictional adult test character: the start frame Veo refused on Higgsfield, 2026-10-27 (Veo 3.1 Fast twice, Veo 3.1 Lite once). Made 2026-10-26, requested as Nano Banana Pro via Higgsfield (job record: nano_banana_2), 2 credits, 1 try. Seedance 2.0 and Hailuo 2.3 accepted it.
Why Veo refused is not verified. This is one frame and one prompt on one route, Higgsfield’s connection to Veo. We draw no conclusion about how strict Veo is in Flow or elsewhere.
“Free Veo 3” sites that are not Google
In our Google US snapshot for “veo 3 free” (2026-10-21), the first Google-owned URL sits at position 15: “Veo 3 in Google AI Studio”, a gallery page. Positions 3 to 10 are third-party: 1min.ai, YouTube, Medium, brev.ai, ninjachat.ai, Reddit and flyne.ai. Positions 1 and 2 are not in the snapshot. Snippet claims, not tested by us:
Site (position) | Snippet claim, 2026-10-21 | Check against Google's pages |
|---|---|---|
1min.ai (3) | "Claim 15,000 credits by visiting the web app each day" | 1min.ai's own credits; value per clip not verified |
brev.ai (6) | "up to 1080P and over 60 seconds", "No account" | Flow: Veo 3.1 generations of 4, 6 or 8 s, extendable |
ninjachat.ai (7) | "clips up to 8 seconds with native audio and dialogue" | Flow's longest Veo 3.1 generation is also 8 s; site not tested |
We call them wrapper sites: they offer a model under their own brand and credits, and we do not know which model runs behind each. A YouTube video at position 4 is titled “VEO 3.1 Free & Unlimited Videos”, while Google’s pages describe daily credits and plan limits. Until a site names who runs its model, treat its free Veo claim as not verified.
Does Veo add sound?
Google’s Flow help implies it does; our test did not check it. Flow help says “Sometimes Veo can produce low-quality audio”; that video is not generated, and the credits are refunded (Google Flow Help, checked 2026-10-27). For Gemini Omni, Gemini app help says “You can also ask Gemini to generate audio with your video” (Gemini help, checked 2026-10-27).
We sent generate_audio: false on all three runs and got no clip, so we have no Veo audio to judge. Higgsfield quoted Veo 3.1 Lite at 12 credits for 8 s with audio on or off.
