Status as of 2026-10-21: off-season. In Google Trends US, “ghostface ai trend” stood at 0% of its peak in the week of 2026-10-18 (week still running at fetch; DataForSEO, fetched 2026-10-21). The status box at the top shows the 12-month curve. We expect the trend back each Halloween season, so this page keeps no year in its address. The AI candy cane trend page works the same way for December. We tested one prompt on 2026-10-21: Nano Banana Pro on Higgsfield did not refuse it, charged 2 credits and took 1 try.

What is the Ghostface AI trend?

The Ghostface AI trend turns a photo of you into a 90s film still built around a phone call scene. It is a horror photo with a flash look and a teen bedroom. You hold a corded phone, and a figure in a Ghostface costume stands in the doorway behind you. Ghostface is the masked killer of the Scream films, a fictional character. We use the name only to describe the trend and claim no tie to the films or their owners.

Kapwing calls it a TikTok trend (kapwing.com, crawled 2026-10-20). In the October 2025 r/GeminiAI threads quoted below, people share it as a Gemini prompt. Is there a Ghostface prompt generator? Not among the pages we crawled on 2026-10-20. Kapwing and Deevid offer Ghostface image or video generators, and Dreamina publishes Ghostface prompt pages (kapwing.com, deevid.ai, dreamina.capcut.com). Those pages lean on long prompt lists. We publish one tested prompt and one variant instead. The parent hub for seasonal trends is Trends.

Is it coming back for Halloween?

Not yet visible in our data: in our 2026-10-21 fetch it stood at 0% in the week of 2026-10-18. In the 12-month Google Trends US series we fetched on 2026-10-21, “ghostface ai trend” peaked in the week of 2025-11-30. It stayed at or above 25% of that peak for 1 week. For comparison, the hotel lobby AI trend held that level for 2 weeks. Earlier research for this site put the peak in the week of 2026-10-04; our fetched series shows no rise that week, and we report the fetched series.

Volume figures disagree as well. The keyword list behind this site shows 2,400 average monthly searches, and a Google Ads volume check via DataForSEO on 2026-10-20 returned 590. Our series has one spike in 12 months, so we expect the next wave around Halloween and November. That is an expectation, not a forecast. We will refresh this page by 2027-09-01 and add that year’s variant.

How to do the Ghostface AI trend on Gemini or ChatGPT

You need one clear photo of yourself and an assistant that accepts an uploaded photo. Free routes come first.

  1. Gemini: upload your photo and paste the prompt below. Free-tier limits: not verified as of 2026-10-21.
  2. ChatGPT: same steps. Free-tier limits: not verified as of 2026-10-21. We have not run this prompt in either assistant, so we cannot say how each treats it as of 2026-10-21.
  3. Higgsfield: see Higgsfield free. Our run used a paid Plus-plan account, so it does not show what a free account gets.

Use your own photo only. We do not publish how-tos for other people’s faces or for celebrities. Our content policy lists the rules.

The Ghostface prompt (copy): the costume wording we tested

This is the exact prompt we sent on 2026-10-21 to Nano Banana Pro at 1k resolution, aspect ratio 4:3. The reference image was our fictional, AI-generated test character.

Tested prompt

The same text as in the recipe card above. Copy it from the card

To use it on yourself, replace “the woman from the reference image” with a description that fits the person in your photo. The key phrase is “a person dressed as Ghostface from the Scream movie franchise”. It describes a person in a costume, not the film character itself. A Reddit user wrote on 2025-10-13 that Gemini itself suggested this wording and that it “has worked every time” for them (r/GeminiAI). That is one user’s report. Our own run is the only test we can vouch for. For a variant, swap the bedroom for a kitchen with a wall phone; we have not tested that variant.

Recreate on Higgsfield (commission link). In Higgsfield, open Image, choose Nano Banana Pro, upload your photo, then paste the prompt.

Why Gemini refuses Ghostface prompts

Gemini’s refusal texts, as users quoted them on Reddit on 2025-10-04, give two reasons: a “threatening or violent” character, and a real person in a “scary setting”. All three reports below come from the r/GeminiAI thread “Halloween AI Photo Trend”.

One user posted this Gemini reply (r/GeminiAI, 2025-10-04): “I cannot include the Ghostface killer in the image. My purpose is to be helpful and harmless, and creating images that depict threatening or violent characters, even in a dimly lit, ominous way, goes against my safety guidelines.” Another user uploaded a photo of themself and got this error (r/GeminiAI, 2025-10-04): “I am not able to generate images of real people in a suggestive or scary setting.”

A third user reported a split result (r/GeminiAI, 2025-10-04). A plain “woman on a bed” prompt worked. A follow-up in the same chat, “Now add Ghostface, looking into the room from the doorway”, was declined.

These are user reports from Gemini in October 2025. We did not test Gemini, so we cannot say whether it still behaves this way. We do not publish ways around a refusal. If a tool declines your photo or your prompt, treat that as the tool’s rule and try a different scene.

Our result on the test character

Nano Banana Pro did not refuse the costume wording. The run cost 2 credits on 2026-10-21 and succeeded on the first try. It is a single sample, not a pass rate.

A 1990s bedroom flash photo of the test character on a corded phone, a masked costumed figure in the doorway

AI-generated test image of our fictional test character. Nano Banana Pro via Higgsfield, 2026-10-21, 2 credits, 1 try. Left edge cropped and wall posters blurred to remove real band and film names.

By eye, the scene follows the prompt. The flash look, the grain and a red corded phone are there, with a hooded, masked figure in the dark doorway. The figure reads as a costume, not a gore scene. We cut the left part of the published image to remove posters with real band and film names, and blurred the wall posters that remain. The edit changes the framing and those patches only.

Our job record shows the run was requested as Nano Banana Pro and reported by the job API as nano_banana_2. All 10 Nano Banana Pro jobs we ran on 2026-10-21 came back with that label. We report the record and draw no conclusion from it.

Ghostface photos with a partner or friends

Everyone in an uploaded photo must agree to it. A couple Ghostface photo or a group Halloween photo puts more than one real face into the tool. The other person’s consent covers both the upload and the post. Our test used one adult, our test character, on purpose. We have not tested a two-person version, so we publish no prompt for it.

Keep children out of this one. It places the person in a horror scene, and none of our examples uses a minor. If you turn the image into a video and add a song, the song belongs to its rights holders. Use a licensed track or the platform’s own sound library.

Paying makes sense once you need more tries than a free tier allows, or a higher resolution. If one image is enough, start free.

Quick answers

Is the Ghostface thing AI? The photos in this trend are AI-generated. The generator draws a Scream-style mask and costume into your photo.

What is the AI Scream trend? It is the same trend under another name: a 1990s horror-film still of you, with a costumed figure behind you.

How do you make your pictures look scary without gore? Use a dark doorway, warm lamp light and film grain. Add “playful Halloween mood, not gory” to the prompt. That is the wording we ran on 2026-10-21, and it was not refused.

Does it still work on TikTok? Not measured: our data is Google Trends US search interest, not TikTok views.
