On 2026-10-27 we made one couple photo from two reference images with the same prompt on three image models via Higgsfield, one try each. By eye, GPT Image 2 (0.5 credits) kept both faces and Nano Banana Pro (2 credits) kept both with mild drift. Seedream 5.0 Lite (1 credit) drifted the woman’s face and cropped the frame at the chest. Both people are fictional adults, so every image here is AI-generated. We judged face match by eye, with no matching tool, and one run per model is a sample, not a ranking.

How to make a couple photo from two photos with AI (tested 2026-10-27)

To merge two photos into one AI couple portrait, upload two single-person portraits to an image model that accepts several references, name each reference in the prompt, describe the pose, and check both faces against the originals. We did that on 2026-10-27; no run failed, was refused or needed a retry.

Consent comes first. Our fixed line for couple pages: “Both people in the photo are adults and both agreed.” Our two are fictional adults generated by AI. With real people, both must be adults and both must agree; if not, stop here (content policy).

The woman is our fictional, AI-generated test character. The man, character B, is a second fictional adult made with Soul 2.0: four candidates for 0.48 credits; we kept the one that read as 33 to 38 with no render artifacts. No real partner photo went into any tool for this page.

References went in the same order on every model: the woman first, the man second. We asked for 16:9 because the Nano Banana Pro still also served as the start frame of our AI hug video test.

Same two photos, three models: results and credits

Same two photos, same prompt, one try each on 2026-10-27: GPT Image 2 cost 0.5 credits and held both faces, Nano Banana Pro cost 2 and held both with mild drift, and Seedream 5.0 Lite cost 1 and drifted her face. Each charge matched its quote. The job record lists our Nano Banana Pro runs as nano_banana_2; the billing line reads “Nano Banana Pro”. We report both and draw no conclusion.

What we saw, by eye

Nano Banana Pro, 1k

Both in frame waist-up, as asked; his arm around her shoulders, his hand natural. Both faces held with mild drift: hers a little narrower with fainter freckles, his a little longer and narrower with darker skin. 1376×768

Seedream 5.0 Lite

Chest-up crop instead of waist-up; the right edge cuts off his outer shoulder. Her face drifted: rounder, freckles turned into dark spots. His held, with lighter skin. Glossy, over-sharpened skin, a very long arm. 2848×1600

GPT Image 2, 1k, low

0.5

Both in frame to the hips; her jeans show. Both faces held; his is the closest to character B of the three. Slight smoothing. 1344×752, the lowest resolution

The three runs cost 3.5 credits (2 + 1 + 0.5), about $0.14 at the Higgsfield Plus annual rate ($47 for 1,200 credits). Our account is billed monthly ($59 for 1,200, about $0.17 here), so the annual figure is a lower bound, as on how we test.

Prompting Gemini for a couple photo: our prompt, not run in Gemini

This is the exact prompt we sent to all three models on 2026-10-27. You can paste it as a Gemini couple prompt, but we have not run it in Gemini. Google’s Gemini Apps Help (checked 2026-10-27) says you can upload multiple images and ask Gemini to create a new image based on them. It adds that Nano Banana 2 accepts multiple reference images and Nano Banana 2 Lite is not designed for them.

Tested prompt

The same text as in the recipe card above. Copy it from the card

Naming “the first reference image” and “the second” ties each person to one upload, and the face line lists hair, beard, glasses and clothes. Swap those details for your own people and drop the last sentence, which describes our fictional subjects; we did not test a reworded version. For a single person styled from one reference, see AI polaroid.

Free couple photo makers: limits and watermark (vendor-stated)

We ran no free maker on this list; everything below is vendor-stated, checked 2026-10-27. Neither GoEnhance nor Gemini gives a number of free generations. Watermark on free output: not verified as of 2026-10-27.

  • GoEnhance: its AI Couple Photo Maker page is headed “AI Couple Photo Maker Online Free”. The FAQ says you can start for free and that the free version lets you merge photos and preview results. Higher-resolution downloads and premium features need an advanced plan. It states no credit amount and no watermark rule.
  • Gemini: the help page says downloads are 2K with a Google AI plan and 1K without one, and that editing images is not available to users under 18. It gives no daily free amount and no watermark rule.
  • Other makers: not verified as of 2026-10-27.

What Higgsfield gives free is on our free-plan page. Paying makes sense when you want several tries across models at 0.5 to 2 credits each (our charges, 2026-10-27).

Our tests ran on Higgsfield. We may earn a commission if you subscribe through the link below; it does not change what we test. Details are in our affiliate disclosure. Open Higgsfield (commission link).

Only if that person is an adult and has agreed to this specific picture. A couple photo shows two people as close, so the second face is not a detail. Do not use an ex, a crush, a celebrity or a face from a group chat: having a file is not permission.

Ask first by message, so there is a record, and say where the picture will be posted. Delete the files if the person changes their mind. When you share the result, say it is AI-generated. The Gemini help page tells users not to violate others' copyright or privacy rights (checked 2026-10-27). We are not a law firm, so check your own jurisdiction. For a moving kiss instead of a still, the consent line is the same: see AI kissing video.

Is it safe to upload two faces?

An upload sends two faces to the service, and one of them is not yours. What we read on 2026-10-27:

  • Higgsfield (privacy policy, last updated 2026-07-26): biometric data from faces is not stored and is destroyed as soon as processing is complete. Content you remove may stay on its active servers for 30 days, with copies in backups after that. The policy lets it train and improve its AI models on inputs and outputs. Deleting content or your account stops that going forward, and it does not remove what trained models already learned.
  • GoEnhance: the upload box says that uploading means you agree to its Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Retention and training use: not verified as of 2026-10-27.
  • Gemini, other makers: retention not verified as of 2026-10-27.

A Valentine’s couple photo: pink backdrop, hearts, roses

On 2026-10-27 Nano Banana Pro turned the same two references into a Valentine’s photo in one try for 2 credits: blush-pink backdrop, red paper hearts, red roses, heads tilted together, no kiss. Both faces held by eye; hers came out a little rounder. This variant ran on one model only.

Tested prompt

Valentine's Day photo of two adults standing side by side: the woman from the first reference image and the man from the second reference image. Keep both faces exactly as in the references: her curly shoulder-length copper hair, light freckles and round tortoiseshell glasses; his full black beard with grey flecks, very short hair with a grey patch and receding temples. Same everyday clothes as in the references: her olive-green bomber jacket over a white t-shirt, his mustard-yellow ribbed crew-neck sweater. She holds a small bouquet of red roses, they stand close with shoulders touching, both smiling at the camera. Soft blush-pink backdrop with a few red paper hearts hanging behind them, warm soft light. Sweet and friendly, no kiss. Both people fully in frame. Two fictional adults, about 29 and 34 years old, ordinary people, not celebrities, no text or logos.

Compared with the first prompt, this one drops “waist-up” and his arm around her shoulders, adds a rose bouquet, and asks for the clothes “as in the references”. A blush-pink backdrop with hearts and warm light replaces the gray studio and “natural skin texture”. What went wrong: the hands holding the bouquet are out of frame, one small heart beside his shoulder is squeezed into a narrow sliver, and some hearts are blurred. We did not test a fix; asking for her hands in frame is an untested guess.

Quick answers

How to make a couple photo from two photos with AI for free?

Upload both portraits to a maker that takes several references and describe the pose. GoEnhance says you can start free, with higher-resolution downloads on an advanced plan; Gemini’s help page says downloads are 1K without a Google AI plan (checked 2026-10-27). We ran neither.

Can AI put two people together in one photo?

Yes. On 2026-10-27 all three models placed two reference people in one frame on the first try. Two kept both faces by eye; Seedream 5.0 Lite drifted one. Check the likeness with both people before you share.
