An AI hug video starts with one photo of two people and a short prompt. On 2026-10-27 we ran one AI-generated start frame of two fictional adults through Kling 3.0 and Minimax Hailuo 02 on Higgsfield. Kling 3.0 charged 7.5 credits for a 5-second clip, Hailuo 02 6 credits for a 6-second request, 1 try each. Kling 3.0 blurred the hands, and our log marks its camera as drifting; Hailuo 02 briefly grew an extra hand. In both clips her face meets his cheek for a moment, which a viewer can read as a peck. This is one run per model, not a ranking.
Both are our fictional, AI-generated test characters; no real or deceased person went into the test. Method: how we test. Part of the AI effects hub.
Consent comes first. Both people in the photo are adults and both agreed. If that is not true for your photo, stop here; see the content policy.
How to make an AI hug video from two photos (tested 2026-10-27)
To make an AI hug video from two photos, combine them into one start frame, then give it to an image-to-video model with a prompt for the turn, the hug and the step back. Our steps on 2026-10-27, credits as charged:
- Make the start frame. Ours came from Nano Banana Pro at 1k and 16:9, built from two reference images with a waist-up prompt: 2 credits, 1 try.
- Check the frame. By eye, both faces held with mild drift: his face came out a little longer and his skin a little darker than in his reference.
- Send the frame to each model with the prompt below. On Higgsfield, Kling 3.0 takes only 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, hence the 16:9 frame.
Our prompt, verbatim, for both models:

Same start frame, two models: Kling 3.0 vs Hailuo 02
On one start frame, Kling 3.0 cost 1.5 credits more than Hailuo 02 and delivered a shorter clip (2026-10-27, one try each, no audio):
Kling 3.0 std | Minimax Hailuo 02 768p | |
|---|---|---|
Charge (our test, 2026-10-27) | 7.5 credits | 6 credits |
Clip delivered | 5.04 s, 1284 x 716, 24 fps | 5.875 s for a requested 6 s, 1376 x 768, 24 fps |
What the clip shows | 0 to 1 s turn toward each other laughing; about 2 to 4 s full hug, his hands on her back; 4.5 to 5 s step back, look at the camera laughing | 0 to 0.5 s turn; about 1 to 2 s her arm over his shoulder; 2 to 4 s close hug, his eyes closed; about 4.5 s part; about 5.5 s look at the camera |
Flaws | Hands motion-blurred around 2 s; by eye, her face pressed to his cheek at about 4.0 to 4.2 s as they part, can also read as a peck | A second, floating hand next to hers behind his shoulder at about 1.2 to 1.6 s; her face pressed to his cheek at about 3.3 to 3.7 s, mouth hidden, can read as a peck |
Faces (by eye) | Both recognizable at 4.5 to 5 s; her face a little rounder | Both held against the start frame at the end |
Faces were judged by eye, with no matching tool. Her face is hidden at his shoulder during the hug in both clips, so we checked identity only before and after it. We saw no body merging in frames sampled every half second.
Start frame plus both clips cost 15.5 credits (2 + 7.5 + 6).
What went wrong, and what to do about it
Both clips need a check before you share them (our runs, 2026-10-27).
The camera, in both clips. The prompt said “static camera”. Our log marks the Kling 3.0 pair shifting right at about 1 s and back by 4.5 s, and in Hailuo 02 the pair ends about 5% of the frame width further right than it starts (frame check, 2026-10-27). On a plain backdrop, a small camera move and body sway look alike, so treat both as by-eye calls. A retry costs 7.5 credits on Kling 3.0 or 6 on Hailuo 02 at the same settings.
Hailuo 02: the extra hand. The floating hand merges back by about 1.8 s. Trim the first two seconds or retry at 6 credits.
The cheek press, in both clips. The prompt said “no kiss”, yet her face presses his cheek in Hailuo 02 at 3.3 to 3.7 s and in Kling 3.0 at about 4.0 to 4.2 s. A viewer can read either moment as a peck. Scrub for these frames before you send the clip to family or a partner. A kiss clip is a different effect with its own consent rules: AI kissing video guide.
No retries. We ran none, so we cannot say how often either flaw repeats. Two people dancing: AI dance video guide.

Free hug generators: limits and watermark, as vendors state them
Vidu and DomoAI call their hug tools free, and neither page gives a number of free clips (Vidu checked 2026-10-27, DomoAI 2026-10-20).

- When paying makes sense: when you need a specific model such as Kling 3.0, or downloads without a free-plan watermark; plans are on our Kling page.

Consent: whose photos you may use
Use your own photo, or a photo of an adult who agreed to this edit (our content policy, 2026-10-21). Having the file is not consent: a photo from a group chat or a social profile carries no permission. For someone who has died, respect the family: ask close relatives before you make or share a clip. Leave celebrities out, even though Vidu’s hug page suggests hugging “a celebrity” (checked 2026-10-27). We publish no hug example with a minor or a celebrity. Full wording: content policy.
A hug video with a loved one who has died: what to know first
An image-to-video model can animate an old photo of someone who has died, but we have not tested that as of 2026-10-27. A memorial video made this way is an animation of a still photo, not a recording. The model does not know how that person moved.
We tested on two fictional adults, not on photos of people who have died. Even on our clean studio frame, faces drifted. The start frame made his face longer than in his reference, and Kling 3.0 made her face a little rounder. Dreamina’s memorial hug page also says resemblance and expressions can vary (checked 2026-10-20). An old, small or scratched photo: not tested. The face in the clip may not match the face you remember.
If you decide to make one:
- Keep the original photo. Work on a copy, so a clip that looks wrong never touches the original. To clean a damaged print first, see how to restore an old photo.
- Say it is AI-made. If you show the clip to family, tell them it is an AI animation of a photo, not a recording. Dreamina’s page gives the same advice: identify it as an AI-created tribute when you share it.
- Ask close relatives first. Others connected to the person may feel differently about how the person is shown, as Dreamina’s page also notes. You can keep the clip private, or delete one that feels wrong.
Dreamina calls its own memorial workflow “not a therapeutic service or a promise of emotional benefit” (checked 2026-10-20). You do not have to make or share one.
